Giza pyramids

The Pyramids of Giza, built to withstand immortality, did just that. Ancient tombs are relics from the era of the ancient kingdom in Egypt and were built about 4,500 years ago.

The Egyptian pharaohs expected to become deities in the afterlife. To prepare for the next world they set up temples of the gods and huge pyramid tombs for themselves - full of all the things each ruler would need to guide himself in the next world.

The three major pyramids of Giza are the focal point of the Giza cemetery that served the elite of the capital of the ancient kingdom in neighboring Memphis in the fifth century BC. Three pharaohs of the Fourth Dynasty were buried here, Khufu, Khafra, and Menkaure, along with members of their royal families. They chose it, west of Memphis, because the west was the direction of the afterlife.

The new pyramids were impressive, but they were a boon to rob graves. The Pharaohs later preferred hidden cemeteries, such as those in the Valley of the Kings outside of Luxor. (Therefore from these hidden graves most Egyptian mummies and artifacts were recovered.) All the pyramids fell into disrepair, were repeatedly penetrated by thieves, and the stone cladding of the building was covered. Wind and rain have underestimated them. However, it is still wonderful.

Unlike the Nile gauges that you will see in Upper Egypt (as the surviving Nile gauge on Elephantine Island in Aswan), this gauge is a much later construction, built-in 861 m.

Manyal Palace

Manyal Palace

The northern end of Al-Rawda Island contains the magnificent ornate palace. After a major restoration, which took several years, it reopened to the public. The buildings here are eccentric riots of styles that select cherry influences from both luxurious Arabic and European designs, resulting in a luxurious symphony of the highest level.

The place has an elaborate wood-beamed ceiling, a residential palace with the Rococo flowering, Ottoman-style tiles, and oil paintings. However, the throne palace, decorated with gold, is the most important thing here.

The complex was built in the early twentieth century by King Farouk's uncle. Set in lush green gardens on the island's beach.
