Hurghada is a city located in the Red Sea Governorate in Egypt. It is one of the main tourist centers in the country and is located on the coast of the Red Sea. Founded in the early 20th century, the town was until recently a small fishing village. But since the 1980s, it has been continuously expanded by Egyptian and foreign investors to become the leading coastal resort on the Red Sea.
Read belowThe Giftun Islands is one of the most popular boat trips in Hurghada, with large stretches of white sand to absorb the sun's rays, and snorkeling opportunities available. For those who aren't into snorkeling, the easily accessible coral reefs surrounding the island's shore are an excellent taste of the beauty of the Red Sea. By snorkeling or even kayaking near the shore, you can discover a lot of fish life flowing through the clear waters. Those not interested in underwater exploits can simply claim a palm frond shelter on the beach, sit back, and enjoy the sun.
Hurghada Marina is a modern and trendy addition to the central Sigala district and the main dining destination in the city. At sunset, this is the place to stroll while soaking up the last of the evening light before heading to one of the many cafes or restaurants for a meal. Dining with views of swaying yachts and the Red Sea stretching to the horizon is insurmountable.
If you've been diving or snorkeling outside and want to spot what you've seen, the Hurghada Grand Aquarium in the northern part of the city (known as Dahar) can help you. These days the aquarium shows its age and can do upgrades, but it still has the only decent display of marine life in Hurghada's Red Sea. For non-swimmers, it's also a good opportunity to see up close the abundant fish life of the Red Sea.
With so much happening in the water, some travelers forget that there is an entire desert world on the shore to explore. Among the most popular things to do on land in Hurghada are quad biking, jeep trips, and buggy excursions in the remote sand dunes. You don't have to travel too far off-road from the resort town to discover the valleys studded with acacia trees, surrounded by the red mountains that make up most of the eastern desert landscape.
A popular way to experience these remote desert areas is a five-hour quad bike safari in Hurghada, which includes a break in a Bedouin village and a camel ride.
Hurghada has some magical sites for exploring underwater. Obviously one of the most important things to do here is snorkeling, but scuba diving is not for everyone, and many people are more comfortable scuba diving. You can experience many of the same underwater attractions on a snorkeling excursion.
A good option is a snorkeling excursion in the Red Sea, which includes pick-up and drop-off from your Hurghada hotel and a full-day boat trip, with lunch, and stops at three major dive stations in the coast, with plenty of time to relax in the majlis as well.
