The Aswan city is known for its quietness and wonderful for recreation and strolling in its attractive attractions.
The first dam at Aswan provided valuable irrigation during dry periods, but was unable to curb the annual flooding of the Great Nile River. In the 1950s, Egyptian leader Gamal Abdel Nasser envisioned building a new dam across the Nile, large enough to end floods and deliver electrical power to every corner of Egypt.
The distance between Cairo and Aswan is 684 km.
