Dhahran is a city located in Eastern Province in Saudi Arabia. It is a major administrative center for the Saudi oil industry. Dhahran forms part of the Dammam Metropolitan Area together with the cities of Dammam and Khobar, which is commonly known as greater Dammam.

Rising 90 meters from the desert, King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) was built by Saudi Aramco and inaugurated by King Salman bin Abdulaziz. It is operated by Saudi Aramco and is currently the company’s main corporate social responsibility initiative with a focus on culture, learning and cross-cultural activities. Ithra is located where the first commercial Saudi oilfield was found in March 1938. Dhahran is accessible from both Dammam and Khobar by 6-8 lane expressways. Dhahran airport (DHA) was attached to the town, but now the new complex is about 65 km away, Dammam King Fahd Int'l Airport (DMM). Regular buses don't operate in the inner areas of Dhahran but are over-linked by Aramco. This bus service is for Aramco employees and dependents only. Dammam railway station is 18 km away. Dhahran itself lies on the Dhahran-Hofuf highway.

Dhahran has a hot desert climate, featuring summers among the hottest and most humid in the world, and virtually frost-free winters. Temperatures can rise to more than 40 °C in the summer, coupled with high humidity, given the city's proximity to the Persian Gulf.
