Places to Visit in Tabuk
Tabuk castle
Tabuk castle is located in the center of the town. It is the oldest in Tabuk as it was built in 1559 under the reign of the Ottoman Empire. There is a mosque on the ground floor of the castle and watchtowers on the second floor. This place holds an important part of Saudi Arabian history. It houses a small museum explaining the history of the castle and contains some historical artifacts from the Ottoman era as well as the history of Tabuk city.
Al Disah Valley
At the crossroads of three valleys south of Tabuk, the wind-sculpted sandstone columns of Wadi Al Disah look like a mix between the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley in America. There are oases of pools, tall grasses and palm trees running through canyons, creating photo ops at every turn, especially during sunsets. You can enjoy hiking through much of the valley or visit it in a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
Ain Sukkrah
This is an ancient spring dating to the Era of Jahiliyyah. It is said that during the expedition of Tabuk, Prophet Muhammad camped more than ten days near the spring and drank from its water.
Al-Tawbah Mosque
This mosque is one of the oldest mosques in the world. It's also known as The Prophet's Mosque, and it was originally built out of mud, bricks and palm-tree trunks. The mosque is considered one of the most important and famous monuments in the Tabuk region due to its historical and religious importance that links it to the Battle of Tabuk. Its complete renewal was ordered by King Faisal bin Abdul Aziz similar to the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina.
Maghaer Shuaib
Maghaer Shuaib seems to appear from nowhere in the reddish desert west of Tabuk, its elegantly carved façades and tombs built into the sandstone rocks recalling Petra in Jordan and Hegra at AlUla. After he fled Egypt, Moses lived here for a decade under the patronage of the prophet Shuaib, who had been impressed by Moses’ chivalry. In return, he offered his daughter Zipporah’s hand in marriage, which Moses accepted before returning to Egypt.
